Welcome to Atlanta, the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr where this adventure will step you through his life and legacy. King was the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954 until his assassination in 1968.
King is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience. He helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28th in front of more than 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This speech was a defining moment of the civil rights movement.
His devastating assassination on April 4, 1968 led to a nationwide wave of race riots. That same year, his wife Coretta Scott King established the King Center dedicated to preserving his legacy.
